Howard has been conferred a Research One (R1) Carnegie Classification, indicating 鈥渧ery high research spending and doctorate production.鈥 R1 is widely considered to be the highest research activity classification among colleges and universities in the United States. IM体育官网 is the only historically Black college or university (HBCU) that has achieved the R1 designation.

Senior Ava Conyer is researching polycombs repressive complexes to root out diseases.

As a part of her studies, senior chemical engineering major Ava Conyer has conducted and participates in ongoing research across an array of focuses鈥攆rom studying engineering and patent law鈥攖o the basics of understanding Polycomb repressive complexes. She is solving problems by learning why certain genes turn into those that make some people more susceptible to certain diseases and cancers.
