Announcing Charter Day Dinner Emcee and Larue V. Barkwell Award Recipient

Dear IM Community,

As the Charter Day Dinner approaches on March 1, I am pleased to announce additional members of the IM community who will be honored that evening. Remember, purchasing a ticket will support scholarships for Howard students.

Emmy Award nominee Anthony Anderson (B.F.A. ’22) will return to serve as the master of ceremonies for the evening. He will also receive the Distinguished Alumni Award. Throughout his legendary career, Anthony Anderson has starred in many highly regarded films and television programs, from Blackish to the thriller G-20, set for release later this year. Away from the camera, he has engaged in an array of philanthropic work, including support for the American Diabetes Association, the Los Angeles Mission, the Boys and Girls Club of America, and IM.

Carrie Hackney (B.M.Ed. ’71) will receive the LaRue V. Barkwell Capstone Distinguished Service Award, presented to an “individual whose purpose comes alive in service to others.” Hackney is the director for Library Administration and Operations, as well as the Divinity librarian. In addition to her administrative duties, Hackney also provides assistance and library instruction to support the Master of Divinity, Master of Arts (Religious Studies) and Doctor of Ministry Degree programs in the School of Divinity. She is also a subject specialist for the Music Department and the Philosophy Department.
